Cantine Matrone Spassa 2022
With 2.3 hectares on the Southern slopes of Mt. Vesuvius, Cantine Matrone are producing authentic, extraordinarily pure wines with structure and personality that are a joy to drink.
Spasso' means "fun" or "party", because this short maceration wine is Vesuvio's answer to glou glou, meant for early (and often) drinking, with a very slight chill. But it's surprisingly grippy for how light and low-ABV it is, so not too much chill or tannins get fierce. At only 11% abv, it's light and fresh on the palate, with a deep red fruit and earthy character. Dark cherry, wild forest berries, a hint of charred orange peel, and that volcanic mineral character are front and center, with a hint of pleasing Campari-esqque bitterness on the finish. Great acidity frames the juicy quality of this wine, making it a great summer or BBQ sipper.
